SHELLEY STEWART | AUTOBIOGRAPHY BOOK DESIGN

Shelley Stewart witnessed his father murder his mother with an axe when he was five. By age six, he was homeless, enduring abuse and racial strife in the 1950s and 60s South. Despite these hardships, he became a popular radio personality and played a key role in Dr. Martin Luther King's Children's March in Birmingham. Stewart also helped convict one of the men responsible for bombing the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. A true Birmingham icon, I was honored to design the cover of his autobiography, hand-letter chapter titles, and create spot illustrations.
